NO BLUE TIMES IN KERANG
Kerang have wasted no time in the quest for their ninth Central Murray flag, appointing Bryce Curnow as co-coach alongside Troy Coates for next season; as well as adding a couple of the Bendigo Football League’s finest to their playing list.
Curnow will take the reigns from Jesse Clark, who will stay on as Senior Assistant Coach with the Blues.
In a further boost to the club’s premiership hopes, Lachlan Ross, 27, and Nick Stagg, 30, will come to Kerang in 2022, with both players having played their entire senior careers with Sandhurst, including the Dragons 2016 Seniors Premiership alongside fellow Kerang player Josh Hann.
Curnow spoke with The Guardian this week and said how excited the Blues are to have two of Bendigo’s finest join their club.
“They’ve both been super consistent over a long period of time in the Bendigo Footy League and they’ve got a lot of friends at Kerang, which was one of the key reasons why they decided to come and play here next season – we identified a few areas to bolster from this season and we went out approached those boys off the back of that,” Curnow said.
Stagg, who played 215 senior games for Sandhurst and kicked 198 goals will likely play in the midfield, where his attack on the footy and grunt work around the stoppages will compliment the likes of Ryan Gillingham, Brad Pay and Marty Kelly.
Ross on the other hand will add further depth to the Blues half back line, following 119 games and 123 goals for Sandhurst in the seniors.
TIGERS COACH RECOMMITTS
Dual premiership coach Marcus Demaria will return to lead Woorinen in 2022, the club confirmed via social media recently.
]Demaria will continue in the role he has held for the past seven seasons, which includes their Senior Premierships in 2018 and 2019 and will no doubt be looking to add more silver wear to the club’s trophy cabinet next year, having finished 2021 in second on the ladder before the season shutdown.
“I’m very excited to lead this group again – I love how driven our boys are and this inspires me to continue to coach this great club,” Demaria told the Woorinen Football Netball Club Facebook page.
SHEAHAN REIGNS SUPREME
The Mallee Eagles new senior coach Brent Sheahan capped off a stellar 2021 season by winning the Mallee Eagles Seniors Best & Fairest last weekend.
Sheahan polled 36 votes to finish eight clear of joint runners-up Beau Bennett and Darcy McGregor on 28 votes.
Zac Saad finished just one vote behind on Bennett and McGregor, despite playing just six games for the season, while Jacob Wade rounded out the top five on 22 votes.
Toby Bookham easily won the Eagles Reserves Best & Fairest, polling 37 votes, with Logan Nalder finishing as runner-up with 18 votes.
Hamish McGregor won the Colts Best & Fairest with 35 votes.
In the closest vote count of the night, Kellie Walker won the Mallee Eagles A Grade Netball Best & Fairest by one vote from joint runners-up Tayla Anderson and Alicia Harvey, while Sarah Young took out the A Reserve Best & Fairest.
