Lewis Swan Hill’s Rookie of the year

The Swan Hill Football Netball Club proudly puts forward Oscar Lewis as our 2021 Rookie of the Year nomination.

Oscar started his junior football career with the SHFNC, showing great promise and making the Under 13 Interleague team.

He progressed through our program until 2015 when he moved to Torquay and decided to take a break from footy. He returned to football in 2016, representing the Torquay Football Club and quickly stamping himself as a player with unique talents.

Throughout 2017 and 2018, Oscar was quickly identified by the Geelong Falcons as an elite talent and while honing his craft at Torquay, was added to their development programs, where he flourished. In early 2019, Oscar represented the Geelong Falcons in the prestigious Under 18 TAC Cup Competition, as well as playing for his school, St Joseph’s College, playing as a lead up half forward and also as a classy on-baller.

Unfortunately, injury prevented Oscar from playing in the second half of 2019.

After showing impressive form, he was invited back in 2020 to play as an overage player, but due to Covid, Oscar missed this opportunity.

Returning home to the Swan Hill Football Netball Club in 2021, Oscar has played mainly across half back, where he’s equally adept at intercepting opposition attacks as he is creating them for his team.

Oscar displays a maturity for a first-year player that is rarely seen and has an unbelievable mix of courage, poise and skill.

Oscar quickly stamped himself as a consistently high performer, being named in our best players in eight out of ten games this season and has earned the respect of his peers and club with his friendly nature and competitive spirit.

We see Oscar as an emerging leader of the Swan Hill Football Netball Club and we wish him all the best for the rest of his exciting career.
