Swan Hill District Health reaches 10,000-jab milestone

SWAN Hill’s vaccination clinic has administered more than 10,000 vaccine doses in just over five months.

Swan Hill District Health (SHDH) began vaccinating people against COVID-19 on March 22.

SHDH COVID-19 vaccination co-ordinator Cathy Darby said the clinic had escalated its vaccination capacity through the increased availability of vaccines.

“Whilst it is a huge number (of doses) from one clinic, there are many thousands more to give,” Ms Darby said.

Ms Darby said it was fortunate the clinic had access to both state and Commonwealth supplies, enabling the health service to get ahead of most other regional centres in the vaccination program.

SHDH reached out to retired and near-retired nurses to assist.

“We have also had a good response from regular nursing staff increasing their shifts per week, as well as clerical staff,” Ms Darby said.

“All immunising staff have undertaken hours of specific COVID-19 vaccination training.

“This, coupled with years of nursing experience, means they are able to provide valuable advice and support regarding the vaccines.”

She said SHDH ensured its staff were not being overworked and that there was enough workers to allow for time off requested.

Ms Darby thanked the community for its kindness and patience during the rollout.

“The people in our community are just delightful and extremely grateful to receive the vaccine,” she said.

“My message to everyone is to book into the next available time slot.

“By getting vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself and your loved ones but your entire community.”
