Tyntynder v Nyah Nyah West United, 46 v 33
TYNTYNDER came out tops in their match against Nyah Nyah West United over the weekend, despite a strong effort from the visitors United. It was a tight first quarter with Tyntynder getting up by one goal – 11 to 10.

Tyntynder then took control of the match in the second quarter doubling United’s scorecard with 14 goals to seven.

United came back to win the third quarter before another convincing last quarter from the home side Bulldogs.

Tyntynder’s Kelsey Rowe shot 22 goals in a best on-ground performance, with GA Sophie Triplett also putting in a strong performance scoring 24.

They were up against it with tough defensive play from United’s GD Aleesha Flanagan and GK Gemma Hendy.

Some other highlights were United’s Denise Snyder and Madison Curran who worked splendidly in the goal ring, with Curran scoring 12 and Snyder, in another best on-ground performance, scoring 21.

Next week will see United play a home match against Tooleybuc Manangatang which should be a reasonably close match, while Tyntynder will face Balranald after their first loss this weekend.

The Roos remain an exceptional team so they will be tough to beat.

Mallee Eagles v Balranald, 48 v 40

THE Eagles have soared home to victory against the previously undefeated Balranald, and now top the ladder with no losses this season.

The Balranald Roos won the first quarter narrowly with 10 points to 11, but from there the Eagles flew ahead, if only by a few goals each quarter.

They won the latter three quarters by three, four and two goals respectively, to add up to an eight goal victory at the end of the day.

With one main shooter, the Mallee Eagles could have struggled with intense defensive pressure, but that didn’t mess with GS Kellie Walker’s impressive 41-goal haul.

GA Emelia Bett also contributed seven to the score. For Balranald, the score was spread more evenly across Madison Jess who shot 19, Jess Parry who scored 11 and Ella Mirtschin with 10.

Best on ground was the Eagles’ WD Tayla Anderson who put in a fantastic effort through the midcourt and defensive end.

Next round, Balranald will have a slightly easier match against Tyntynder although the Bulldogs always fight hard.

And the Mallee Eagles will play Swan Hill who are now in third place after their defeat of Woorinen. This is sure to be one of the highlights of round eight.

Woorinen v Swan Hill, 37 v 53

The rematch of the 2019 premiership has gone to the runners up – the Swans – in a surprisingly strong defeat of the Tigers. The Swans are now third on the ladder, with the Tigers just in the top half in fifth.

A powerful Kerang side separates the rivals in fourth place. The Swans led from the first quarter with eight goals to 12, and won each of the following quarters by four goals.

Woorinen GS Renee Isma shot 29 while Milla Wilcox in GA shot a handy eight, but Swan Hill were too strong.

“They shot very well, and played a very strong match,” Woorinen’s netball coordinator Kellie Wilcox said of the opposition.

And Swan Hill’s playing-coach Zoe O’Sullivan was suitably chuffed.

“We had a great win on Saturday – very excited to be gaining some consistency and momentum,” O’Sullivan said.

Particularly impressive were the Swan Hill shooters GA Greta Sheldrick who shot 11 and GS Arlee Bennett who shot 33 goals. Bennett took home best on for her team as well as the headspace player of the match award.

And the goals team managed to complete with the best – up against tireless GD Tessa Demaria who is always a top performer for the Tigers and Rachel McLaughlin in GK.

The final score of 37 v 53 does not quite capture the competitiveness of this match – but is a credit to the Swans in the goal ring.

Hayley Neuschafer in WD and GD Alivia Andrews were other standouts for the visitors, although it truly was a team effort with the whole side gelling very well across the court.

Next week Woorinen will be up against Koondrook/Barham and the Tiger’ strong form should see them do well north of the border, while Swan Hill will play the undefeated Mallee Eagles in a tough match up

Tooleybuc Manangatang v Lake Boga, 34 v 45

LAKE Boga had a win against Tooleybuc Manangatang this weekend, despite a strong start from the home side Saints and very chilly conditions.

TM kicked off with a three goal lead by quarter time, but Lake Boga fought back to lead by five at half time.

Boga’s GS Sarah Hepburn scored 12 goals of the side’s 14 in this second quarter, while the Saints were kept to five with the half-time score of 12 v 17 a testament to the visitors’ efforts.

Boga’s netball coordinator Chris Warne particularly highlighted the performance of Jemma Meehan and Brianna Gilbert who combined well in defence to apply pressure on their opponents.

Both teams went into the third quarter with no changes as Sarah Hepburn added another 12 to her tally. TM’s Zoe Morris at the opposite end shot eight to keep her team in reach with the margin 11 with 15 minutes to go.

Lake Boga made two changes for the final term and the game was played at a fast pace. In an even last quarter the final margin was the 11-goal difference at three quarter time, securing Boga the four points.

TM’s scorers were GS Zoe Morris with 22 and GA Kelissa O’Shannassy with 12. This performance saw O’Shannassy named best on for her side, while GA Katie Hepburn in Boga’s goal ring was best for the victors.

Katie shot eight and teamed up with sister GS Sarah Hepburn who shot 37.

Next week Boga will play the Cohuna Kangas with a win looking promising, while Tooleybuc Manangatang will face last on the ladder Nyah Nyah West United.
