Tyntynder returned to the winners list at the weekend with a 44-point win in tough conditions over a disappointing Nyah-Nyah West United.
The Doggies opened up with a four goal to one first quarter and led from start to finish, eventually running away with an 11.11.77 to 4.9.33 win at home.
The question on everybody’s lips pre-game was where the Demons were going to get their goals from in the absence of Brent Arho. Sam Arho played mostly out of the square in place of United’s spearhead, but the Demons wasted their opportunities in front of goal in the windy conditions after booting just four goals from their thirteen scoring shots.
It was out of the middle where Tyntynder won the game though, with the Doggies dominating both around the stoppages and in contested possession. The young Pups were up for the contest right from the opening bounce as they outworked their opposition. As a result, NNW United struggled to maintain possession, making silly errors with the ball in hand. The Demons usual ran and carry game was non-existent and they constantly fumbled the ball in the trying conditions.
Elliott Broad had the job on Joel Campbell for the entire afternoon and was impassable at Centre Half Back. Campbell had minimal impact on the game, while Broad played a blinder; not only in keeping his opponent out of the game but intercepting anything that came his way.
Dylan Smillie returned from suspension and immediately repaid his teammates with a dominant display in the ruck. Opposed to Blake Larkings for much of the day, Smillie gave his midfielders first use and was the main reason for Tyntynder’s clearance domination, with James Sala, Isaiah Bull and Marcus Wattie the main beneficiaries.
The one saving grace for United was the performance of their back six, for if not for them the margin could have gotten ugly. Adrian Knee at Full Back was sensational for four quarters, as was his partner in crime Cal Dobbin. Campbell Everitt and Jaydyn Stirling both tried hard and were among the few Demons that provided some run and dash off half back, while Rhys Burge worked overtime in defence as well.
For the Dogs, Elliott Broad was a clear best on ground, while Harry Simpson and Cayden Crowe were also solid across half back, with James Sala on a wing also having one of his better games for the season.
