Game on for young and old

WE were a bit short of numbers last Saturday in our pennant bowls, so we had to do a lot of ringing around to try and get a couple of extra players.

After about 22 phone calls to make sure of the rules and to find a couple of players, we managed to get a couple of players from Lake Boga.

Thank you to Eli and his Nana Jean for coming over.

Also, a big thank you to Eli’s mum for driving them over. They had a good day out. They each got a prize in our raffle.

Eli got a game of bowls and had a win. But, the big news was that Nana Jean was in the rink that picked up an eight on the 24th end.

She was pretty happy with that and we will try to organise the presentation of the special badge they get when we play Lake Boga next.

Thank you again for our mates from Lake Boga for helping us out.

Due to a fishing trip that has been happening for 20 or 30 years, plus family commitments, our Division 1 was a bit short this week.

They were going OK at smoko, but the cream cakes took their toll and ended up one rink up, two rinks down. Down overall.

Division 2-3 had a great day out with the help of our Lake Boga mates with three rinks up. Eli is 12. Our oldest player in Moulamein is Clarry at a spritely 88.

That is the beauty of bowls. You are never too young and you can still play when you have a few years under your belt.

This week Division 1 is at home to Swan Hill. Do not forget your cream cakes, team.

Division 2-3 heads to Manangatang. I still owe that Manangatang mob a feed of yabbies from years ago.

Unfortunately, my debt will not be paid back as the yabbies went off last February and have not come back.

Resowing started

THE multitudes of ducks that have been here since the start of our rice growing season seemed to have moved on.

But, they did a bit of damage before they left and a little bit of resowing has started.

Let’s hope the ducks stay where ever they have gone.

Pennant tennis

IT had to happen eventually.

Number one played number two last Saturday.

Our Moulamein pennant tennis team had their first loss in over 60 years.

Plenty of pigs

THE ducks may be gone but after the floods pushed the pigs down stream to Moulamein and district.

They have seemed to take over as the major pest in our district.

They can breed up so fast that if they get ahead of you. It is hard to catch up.

Upcoming races

WE all should know that our Moulamein races are running again on December 14.

This is always a big weekend for our little town.

Spread the word. Let’s make this a big one.

River levels

OUR Edward is staying level at around 2260 megalitres a day and just below 2.2 metres.

The Mighty Billabong will not give us such a great flush as expected at cod opening, but there will still be a good flow that will hopefully liven the cod up.

Those with tens of thousands of megaliters of environmental water failed to deliver.

The price must have gone up so they must have sold it back to the farmers they took it off instead of sending it down our rivers to do what it is supposed to do –

make our rivers healthy and breed native fish.

There are still a few good fish getting caught between the multitudes of carp, but not as many as there would be if they used their so called environmental water properly.
