Our Moulamein men’s shed is still collecting batteries for their yearly fish restocking program for our district rivers.
You can drop batteries off at any time of the year at their shed in Moulamein but this is the time when we keep reminding you to drop them off as the fish are about to be purchased.
As I said, it is around 40 fingerlings per tractor battery with their two-for-one deal off the fisheries. Check your tips, check behind your sheds. Let’s get as many fish back into the rivers as we can to get over the black water event two years ago.
Drop them off in town or ring Noal on 0447541200 for a pick up. On a pallet would be good if you have a good load.
Murray River Council
Everyone that reads my notes know I give this mob a hard time on occasions. But, as I told our mayor when I met him, I give bouquets as well as bricks.
This week it is a bouquet. Our council has been doing a bit of work on one of our parks in town. They had to cut a pipe to fix a leak. Unknown to them, this cut off the water supply to our Moulamein Lake pump. This makes it a bit hard to prime our town lake pump.
One phone call is all it took. Thank you, Rick and your team, for getting a water supply back to our lake pump. Breeding season is about now, so we try and work the spring filling of our lake to get our many native fish in there to breed.
Resowing started
The multitude of ducks that have been here since the start of our rice-growing season did a bit of damage. There is a little bit of resowing going on. Let’s hope the ducks stay away.
Pennant bowls
As I walked into bowls on Saturday, I had to walk past a Swan Hill side.
The dreaded cream cakes were mentioned. I may wear one of those cream cakes before the season is over. Back to the bowls.
Our Divi1 side has still not been defeated and sit on top of the ladder. They got up with I think two rinks up. One draw, up overall.
Divi 2-3 had their second win for the season with two rinks up. One down. Up overall.
This week both teams are at home. Divi 1 is at home to Nyah and Divi 2-3 is at home to Murray Downs. We are a bit short of players this weekend due to a fishing trip. If you are available, please give us a ring and you will get a game.
Pennant tennis
Our tennis team has kept their unbeaten record going and remain on top of the ladder. This will be the big test for them with the top team playing second. Good luck to those involved.
Comedy night
Our Moulamein Bowling Club reckons that the district needs cheering up so we have not one but three comedians coming to our club on Saturday, November 23.
Could be a rough night for our Divi 2-3 bowling team as they have to get back from Manangatang. The night will start at 6.30pm and will only cost you $25.
Meals will be available from club chief Andrew, so you will be well fed and entertained. For more information, ring Courtney on 0429646942.
River levels
Our Edward has been pretty steady for a few days at around 2.15m and just over 2200 megs a day.
If you put the work into it, you can still pick up a feed of yellers and plenty of carp for the yabby pots. But still bugger all yabbies getting caught.
