Off-quota still going
MY mates on the Murray River system are still having a ball.
They have what is now called supplementary water until the 25th.
That makes almost one month that this great event has gone on.
This has put millions of extra dollars into our district.
Us poor cousins on the Murrumbidgee really enjoyed our one day of off-quota this week.
Let’s hope this is the start of some common sense back into the water job.
Goannas in the roof
THIS could be an ongoing story.
A mate’s daughter has moved back home to live in one of his farm houses.
There is a bit of a problem. There are an unknown number of goannas living in the roof.
They are not your average size goanna. Any that have been seen are the eight-foot version. They have settled in for the winter.
WIRES was called so they could rescue them. Not a hope in hell they were going to crawl into the roof with eight-foot goannas.
Leave it until the spring they said, and they will go out for a feed, then screw the roof down and seal the holes up.
Good idea, but there is another problem.
There are also some possums that share the roof cavity.
Every now and again there is a hell of a ruckus up there.
It sounds like they are all wearing size 12 work boots.
We will keep an eye on this story to see what happens.
River levels
OUR Edward River is still dropping very quickly.
It has gone from over 1400 megalitres (ML) a day to just over 700ML going past Moulamein in the last week.
There is still only just over 500ML going over Stevens Weir.
With what is getting pumped out between here and up there, our river looks like someone pulled the plug.
A few of our pumpers enjoying this great off-quota event may have to extend your suction pipes.
I asked someone how much they thought would be getting pumped out between here and Stevens Weir. About 500 was their guess.
We will be seeing our first drought level in our river for many years and it is when we have off-quota.
When we have zero allocation for two years, our rivers are up to the top of the banks.
If you do not like the answer, do not ask the question is my theory.
So, once again, I thank those in charge of our water for the supplementary water that will put millions of extra dollars into our district.
