Getting some answers

Bridge back on the agenda

OUR Murray River Council (MRC) is looking for answers and a timeframe in regard to the dreaded bridge.

MRC has resolved to write to local members Peter Walsh and Helen Dalton seeking more information surrounding the status of planning, construction and opening of the new Moulamein bridge at Swan Hill.

Our mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey, is keen to get some answers on the placement and design of the new bridge.

Particularly now that the heritage listing has been taken off the old bridge.

The federal government has committed $60,000 to replace the Moulamein bridge as part of its investment in a safer and more efficient freight corridor between Echuca and Robinvale.

Well done to our MRC for getting this back on the agenda.

“We want to have confidence that all parties are focussed on outcomes and that the discussions are continuing so that council and the community can have confidence in the delivery of this project,” Cr Bilkey said in a press release.

Would be a great economic stimulus project.

Thirty-plus millimetres of rain for the district

IT was a great time for our district farmers last week when the rain just kept coming.

I do not get out much anymore, due to circumstances beyond my control, but most of us around Moulamein seemed to get over 30mm for the week.

This might make my decision to put the rams back in a good one.

If not, and we do not have the feed, there will be some very good ewes for sale and hopefully pregnant if the rams have still got it in them.

A bonus for them, and hopefully a bonus for me.

We are finally able to preg-test tomorrow.

So, we will see how well the rams did in the first visit with their girlfriends.

Rainbow is the go

FOR those of you that look up the radar to check where the rain is going to and coming from, the new radar at Rainbow is a heap better for us than the Mildura one.

River levels

THE Edward is about to rise at the moment and is just above 1.1 metres and just over 845 megalitres per day.

Because of the recent rain, there is over 21,000ML coming past Yarrawonga and still increasing.

That was less than 5000 a week ago.

There should be a good flush come down our rivers.

If it was better times, we might even get some off-quota. I wait with bated breath.

Oil up your fishing gear, you might get a feed.

Just a thought, can you fish in the Murray from the Victorian bank? NSW water.

Jog down to the Murray, stand in the water, catch a fish and jog home. Problem solved.
