Coffey trains another treble

SWAN Hill thoroughbred trainer Austy Coffey continued his great form of late training three winners and four seconds at the Swan Hill race meeting held today.

Coffey also trained a treble at the last Swan Hill meeting on March 30 with Poppy’s Orse, Tiny Rebel and Nova Way being successful.

Coffey’s treble today came up in the first three races of the seven race card.

As well as the three winners Coffey also trained four second place getters for the meeting.

Vain Tiger proved too strong coming from well back at the turn to beat Coffey’s other runner Wu Darl by a head in the 1600 metre maiden handicap.

Leading jockey Dean Yendall partnered with the winner of race two Top Fred, who at his eighth start broke his maiden status.

The four-year-old sat behind the pace of the favoritre Sweet Venom before proving too strong in the run to the line.

Yendall completed the treble for Coffey in race three piloting the odds on favorite Low Level Flying, who lived up to his name winning by a comfortable 1.25 lengths from Ouzacracker.

Going for four winners in the first four races, Coffey’s runner the favorite Poppy’s Orse led for most of the straight before being run down close to the line by Let Loose.

Poppy’s Orse may have been a little unlucky as jockey Neil Farley seemed to lose the reins close to the finish line.

Coffey had to again settle for second place in the fifth and seventh races with Spectate and Northanna and had no runner in race six.

The next meeting at Swan Hill will be conducted on Sunday, May 11.
