Weather according to Jack

Weather according to Jack

MAYBE this should not be on top of my notes with Jack’s record.

But, this is the best news that Jack has been able to give us for a year or two.

Jack was quite willing to take a back seat while things were crook.

But, Jack has finally made a positive prediction.

The weather according to Jack has predicted an average autumn as well as an average winter. That is the good news.

After the last couple of years, anything would be good news.

The only sting in the tail of weather according to Jack is that.

Jack is a bit worried about the spring. Not looking good at the moment.

Please do not plan your farm on these predictions as this is Jack’s hobby, not his job.

We may see if it should be his job this year.

Very poorly attended meeting

I DO not know if it was because there was no Wongi, or if it was because I forgot to put it in my notes or the fact that no one gives a s***.

But, this meeting was the chance to tell our council your opinion on our levee in town.

Residents may not get many more opportunities to give their opinion on how to better protect our town from the dreaded flood that we can only dream about at the moment.

But, the floods will come again. They always have, and they always will.

Next time we have one of these meetings, please come to it, you get fed and it is at the bowling club, so you can have a beer after the meeting.

Take it from me, you may just need one.

Football-netball fishing

competition

THIS is a good time to remind everyone that our local fishing competition is coming up in the long-weekend in March.

There are a lot of small cod getting caught at the moment as well as plenty of keepers and we cannot forget the ones that are too big to get caught only once.

They are getting landed as well.

If you come to this competition, you will be well-fed, well-watered, well-rewarded as well as entertained for the whole weekend.

You will not be disappointed. Give it a go.

Bowls notes

OUR good mates from Manangatang got the short straw and had to be here by 9am to beat the heat because we cannot play bowls at over 40 degrees.

This mob is one of the only few to recognise our secret weapon.

They even made mention of it in their speech to wish us the best in the finals.

Chalky Clark’s mob kept their form going, but it was not my job this week to keep his bowls clean.

Cool Hand Shield’s and his mob almost got up.

The Unhappy Hookers became the Happy Hookers again and it was my job to rub the chalk off Old Harrow’s bowls this week.

Two rinks up, one down. Up overall and back knocking on the door of second spot.

Racecourse on their home turf this week will be a good test for us.

Sculpture competition

THIS is just a heads up that our gallery mob is running their sculpture competition again this year.

Sculptures must be made of mostly metal and farm stuff.

This year it will be held at our Easter celebrations in Moulamein.

This year there will be a prize for a small sculpture as well as a large one.

I think the large one still must be able to be carried by two people.

For more information, please ring Sandy on 5887 5206.

This could become something big for our district.

River levels

THE Edward is just below 2.4 metres and around 2600 megalitres (ML) a day.

With only just over 2000ML a day and 300 or so ML coming down the Billabong, our river should finally start to drop a bit.

These high rivers are good entertainment, but they are a complete waste of water in the current climate.
