Plenty of cod

THIS will be happening on Sunday at a time yet to be announced.

Our Moulamein Men’s Shed has teamed up with our Moulamein Angling Club as well as our mates from Bendigo and the NSW Fisheries.

I think there is over $12,000 worth of cod going into our Edward River and Billabong Creek this weekend.

Well done to all those involved.

Keep an eye on Facebook for more details.

Plenty of cod

FISHING is slow for some but other reports in the Edward said it is full on.

One mob camped on the Edward River for the past three weeks has landed 27 keepers, a few big ones and an uncountable amount of little cod.

Before everyone jumps on them, they have only been keeping one fish a week and putting the rest back.

It is good to hear reports about the small ones.

Could have something to do with last year’s great restocking effort.

Water for our lake

OUR Moulamein Lake pump went as hard as it could to get our lake levels up.

Our Moulamein Lake is now very skiable and plenty of people are taking advantage of this.

The locks have now been changed and memberships are now due.

$150 for the season or $20 per day, per boat.

Unfortunately, there a few that take advantage of our system, so I keep asking everyone to lock the gate behind them.

With our new lock, you cannot get the key out unless you lock the padlock. Just lock it back on the chain.

Water and power are very dear and we have to cover costs.

Someone asked for a discount because it may be a short season. Ski somewhere else was my answer. That is free, but never as good.

We should get this ski season out of the water that we have.

What happens after that, no-one knows.

Australia Day

in Moulamein

WE will start the day at around 8am for breakfast cooked by our Moulamein Fire Brigade.

This will be followed by the usual ceremonies and our gallery mob has picked up an award this year.

Be sure to turn up and cheer them on.

The cost of the morning will be $5 for as much as you can eat and free for all school-aged children.

There will be a bit of a break.

We have our usual lake carnival and hopefully the licence for the fireworks will get back in time and we will have fireworks off Mount Moulamein just after dark.

Stay tuned for more information next week.

Country is still burning

LET’S hope by the time you read this we have had rain in the fire grounds.

I went up for a tour of duty I call it last week.

There are some sad stories up there and everyone just needs some down time.

As we were leaving, it rained a little bit. I told them that there could be a baby boom in Tumbarumba in nine months’ time.

They all said no way. If it rains for the five or six days that it is forecast this week, I can guarantee that there will be a baby boom in nine months.

If you would like to help out, ring the White Shirts on 5881 5351 during office hours and they will look after you (not with the baby boom, I mean with the fires).

All you need is your BF and your gear and away you go.

Tumut seems to be the hot spot for our crews at the moment, but things can change very quickly.

River levels

THE Edward is steady at 2.3 metres and just below 2500 megalitres (ML) a day.

There are almost 1500ML a day coming out of the Mulwala escape to keep my crow eating mates happy and the Edward at a ridiculous level in a drought.

Fishing is good, but that is the only thing that is good about wasting water.
