MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

MURRAY Downs Golf and Country Club women members will have a 10 day hiatus from golf courtesy of the staging of the NSW Open, with Tuesday, November 5, the last available day to play.

Fifty four competitors enjoyed the summer-like conditions on Wednesday, with Virginia Allen taking out the major prize with 38 stableford points from her 24 handicap, while the runner up in Division 1 was Barb Cadd (29) with 36 points.

In Division 2, Heather Evans (37) and Maureen Brennan (52) both scored 36 points, with the former winning on a countback.

Anne Webb and Maryanne Davis both scored 35 points and Marg Moore and Lois Carnie both scored 34 points to lead the ball pool.

Lynne Lawry hit her tee shot to 93 cm from the flag on the 11th hole to win the jackpot, with the other nearest the pin winners being Maryanne Davis and Ruth McAlister.

On Saturday, Tara Free (33) scored a 70 nett to win the trophy donated in memory of Mal Woolhouse, with Kristy Gordon (17) on 71 the next best, while Rhonda Barrow, Dione Heppell and Paula Pickert won the nearest the pin prizes.

Recent Golden Girls winners have been Joan Foster, Lois Coady, Jenny White and Barb Upton.

A gardening working bee will be held from 8am to 11am in lieu of golf next Wednesday.
