A COMMITTEE of management that helped bring back a popular lake to life has been recognised.
Department of Environmental, Lake, Water and Planning (DELWP) Loddon Mallee land and built environment program officer (committees of management) Jason Torney said the group was recently presented with a certificate of recognition at a special event held at the lake.
“The Green Lake committee of management has worked tirelessly over the last eight years to source funding to repair the leaking lake bed and make a range of improvements to the lakeshore,” Mr Torney said.
“The lake has been refilled and is once again a vital community asset and social hub offering locals and visitors a range of camping, boating and event options.
“In addition to the major works undertaken to repair the lake bed, extra powered camping sites were installed together with picnic tables and fire pits.”
Mr Torney said the works had been achieved through many volunteer hours and meetings over several years.
“There is no doubt this could not have happened without the drive and passion of the committee members who have been able to manage these works with the support of the broader community,” Mr Torney said.
“The committee’s efforts have made an outstanding contribution to the area for current and future generations to enjoy.
“On behalf of DELWP, I thank the committee for the significant effort and time they have devoted to carrying out their duties and providing significant social and economic benefit to the Sea Lake community and the region.”
There are 220 volunteer committees of management in the Loddon Mallee region who take an active role in managing, maintaining and improving public assets in their local community.
These assets include important community facilities including community halls, recreation reserves, rail trails, club facilities, heritage buildings and more.
