Hospice help

SWAN Hill District Hospice Committee has been left “overwhelmed” after more than $11,000 was recently donated.

Of the total, $8000 was donated from the Swan Hill Combined Service Clubs Fishing Classic, with the other $3000 provided by Swan Hill Rotary Club.

Hospice committee president Michael Crowe said the committee was grateful for the community support.

“Obviously it’s overwhelming, and again, as a hospice committee, it’s just been so fantastic that the community has raised the money,” Mr Crowe said.

“The hospice unit is currently being used, unfortunately, on a weekly basis.

“We have completed the gardens on the rooftop and it looks fantastic.”

Mr Crowe said money donated to the committee was placed in a trust at the hospice, before being allocated.

The 14th annual fishing Swan Hill Combined Service Clubs Fishing Classic was held in March this year, attracting 100 boats and 200 competitors.

Proceeds from the fishing classic were distributed to local charities after an amount was used to restock fingerlings into the river.

Along with the $8000 donated to the hospice, $3000 was donated to Lions Club and another $3000 to Rotary to distribute to local charities.
