The Nyah Nyah West Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Koraleigh Rural Fire Service (RFS) will join forces once again to raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal.
Volunteers from both brigades will collect money along the Murray Valley Highway at Nyah tonight and tomorrow morning.
Nyah Nyah West CFA captain Miriam King said the CFA had been involved with the appeal “since the start”.
“CFA is like one big family and we support each other,” Ms King said.
“The Royal Children’s Hospital is the place to be if your child is sick.”
She said the combined total of $7000 was a good target to reach between the two brigades.
“There’s a bit of friendly rivalry between the two of us as to who can raise the most,” she said.
Nyah Nyah West CFA Good Friday coordinator Alison Craig said last year the two brigades raised a total of $7894.
“It seems to get higher each year,” Ms Craig said.
“The Beverford Tavern and some local businesses in Nyah and Nyah West also have collection tins for us.
“Along the highway though, it’s often the regular campers who donate on the way to their holiday destinations.”
Ms Craig said the Good Friday Appeal was a great cause to get behind.
“There are families from all over the state — as well as the NSW border towns — who rely on the hospital’s services,” Ms Craig said.
“My son was there when he was seven. It wasn’t anything serious, but it was good to know that the hospital was there.
“We just want to thank anyone who stops and donates. Every cent counts and it’s always much appreciated.”
Koraleigh RFS captain Brian Hoare said the money the brigades collectively raised had been increased over the years.
“It really depends on when Easter is in relation to the Victorian and NSW school holidays,” Mr Hoare said.
“Because Easter is at the end of the Victorian school holidays this year, it might be a bit quieter.
“We will start a bit earlier than we usually do, so hopefully we can reach our target.”
