THE Swan Hill Mallee Cruisers Car Club enjoyed a road trip back in time last weekend when they headed to the recently opened Holden Museum in Mildura.
An entourage of 12 cars left Swan Hill in convoy and met up with members of the Mildura based American Muscle Car Club and Friends.
Mallee Cruisers’ president Tim Purtill said the museum was a great chance for Holden fans to step back in time, with fully restored cars and other memorabilia on display.
From humble beginnings as everyday family cars, many old models are in demand and have significantly increased in value with one HK GTS Monaro recently listed for sale at $302,000.
“It was really great to see the old cars from the chrome bumper era back in their full glory,” Mr Purtill said.
“We shared lunch with the drivers from Mildura and had what we call a park and brag where we chat and talk about our cars.”
The group also enjoyed a trip down the river aboard the paddle steamer Gem.
“Some of the drivers then headed back to Swan Hill, while others stayed the night and attended the local speedway event in Mildura.”
Mr Purtill said the club welcomed new members and not just those interested in cars.
“We like to promote ourselves as a family friendly club,” he said.
