Balranald solar farm shapes as the largest

A proposed solar farm for Balranald Shire could become the largest of its type in the country if it goes ahead.

The site for the proposed Sunraysia Solar Farm is located 17 kilometres south of the town.

The draft plans have been made public and residents are encouraged to have their say before March 5.

Balranald Shire Council Mayor Leigh Byron said such a facility would be great for the community.

“The solar farm will create new jobs and bring families to Balranald, who will hopefully stay after constriction is complete,” he said.

“This is just another business that will come to our shire and help the region grow.

“Everything is looking very positive at the moment with the solar farm, horticulture developments and the mineral sands mine.”

The proposal calls for a 200 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant on the Tooleybuc-Balranald Road. between Balranald and Kyalite. A grid connection is part of the proposal.
