Bike track focus now on funding

There is still an urgent need for a bike track between Lake Boga and Swan Hill, according to Lake Boga Inc.

The group plans to set up a sub-committee dedicated to making the bike track a reality.

Lake Boga Inc president Cameron Smits said the sub-committee would be able to create a strategy to secure funding.

“We want to keep this in the forefront of people’s minds,” he said.

“People will be more active and it will give them the chance to ride to work.

“It will also benefit the environment because people will be using their cars less.

“Plus there’s the economic benefit; this will give people another activity for visitors to do and may convince them to stay another night in either town.

“A bike track would also be a safer option for people who already ride their bikes to and from Lake Boga. At the moment having people ride on the road is not safe.”

Murray Plains MP Peter Walsh said the bike track would offer several benefits to residents of Swan Hill and Lake Boga.

“Linking Swan Hill and Lake Boga would be great on several fronts,” he said.

“It gives people the opportunity from both towns to ride to work. Right now that’s not safe to do so because of the narrow shoulders on the highway.

“From a recreational and tourism standpoint, it gives people the chance to ride out to Lake Boga from Swan Hill to enjoy the Catalina museum and the lake itself.”
