Swan Hill’s drug problem manifested itself with the discovery of drug-related items at Lake Boga on Boxing Day.
Renae Taylor was spending a day at the lake with her partner, her 12-year-old niece and two-year-old son when she stumbled upon two syringes and an empty packet of Oxycodone.
“We were sitting by the lake at a really popular spot where lots of families usually are,” Ms Taylor told The Guardian.
“When we came back to the car I saw the package on the ground. Being a pharmaceutical assistant, I knew exactly what it was.”
After finding the empty packet of Oxycodone, Ms Taylor searched the area for more items.
“I know the drug problem in Swan Hill is bad so looked around to see if there was anything else,” she said.
“Sure enough there were two syringes; one that hadn’t been tapped.”
Ms Taylor said her partner placed the syringes into a beer bottle and put it out of sight.
“There were no bins around and we didn’t know what to do with them,” she said.
