A Swan Hill swimming coach says people need to be aware of constant changes in waterway conditions following the identification of the Murray as a river drowning blackspot by Life Saving Victoria.
According to the latest Victorian Drowning Report, males are seven times more likely to drown as females in the region.
Forty-three people drowned in Victoria during the 2015-16 financial year; 29 of them in regional Victoria.
Nyah Two Bays Swan Hill Swimming Club head coach Hayden Collins said the river can be an “ever-changing beast”.
“The conditions can change very quickly and it’s important that people wear personal flotation devices in any water conditions,” Mr Collins said.
