Entertainer, environmentalist, innovator and leader.
That’s how family and friends remembered respected Swan Hill resident Bruce Jones, whose dairy farming practices were at the forefront of the world and leadership as mayor saw him elevate Swan Hill wherever he went.
Mr Jones worked the farm at Tyntynder South, Hastings Jones Pty Ltd, with his two brothers Alex and Kelvin and up to 12 staff. At its peak in 1995, the farm was milking more than 1300 cows per day in the largest rotary dairy in the world at that time.
He travelled the world studying aspects of dairying, attended and addressed conferences, working closely with chosen consultants.
Family and friends paid tribute to the former Swan Hill Rural City Council mayor, 69, who died when his motorcycle hit a pothole during the Cross Egypt Challenge Tour on October 26.
Speaking at the funeral at the Swan Hill Church of Christ, leading dairy farmer Grant Davies said the dairy industry owed a lot to Mr Jones.
Mr Jones was born in Swan Hill on September 29, 1947 to Win and Lloyd Jones, becoming the fifth generation to farm at Tyntynder South.
