MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THE annual Classic tournament at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club was held last week.

On Thursday, local golfer Jo Watts took out the Mid Murray Amateur title, with a scratch score of 83, finishing two shots clear of Lyn Rose from Rosanna Golf Club.

In the B Grade, Eunice Chan-Healey (Rosanna) scored 90 to win on a countback ahead of Jenny Waterson (Kerang), while in the C Grade, Kerri Lynch (Nhill) with 103 and Karen Rees (Toolondo) were the successful golfers.

The handicap section winners were:

A Grade: Kerry Peterson (18, Gisborne) 72, Rachel Bryson (19, Rosanna) 73.

B Grade: Pam Austerberry (25, Murray Downs) 72, Tracey Cuff (26, Rosanna) 73.

C Grade: Lisa Roberts (34, Settler’s Run) 73, Karen Dillon (29, Gisborne) 77.

The Murray Downs Bowl was won by a team from the Rosanna Golf Club.

Fifty-one pairs took out cards for the Friday four ball, with the first-prize winners being Jo Watts and Karen Rees, who scored 48 points, with the runners-up Jenny Lynas and Tamika Hogan with 46 points.

The 2024 Monthly Medal winners played off for the Medal of Medallist on Wednesday, with Lynne Lawry scoring 72 to take out the title.

The October Monthly Medal was also on the agenda, with Melita Sartori (36) from C Grade scoring a 71 net to be declared the winner, with the C Grade runner-up being Avis Shipsides (41) 79 net.

Lynne Lawry (28) 72 claimed the honours in B Grade ahead of Barb Cadd (29) with a 74 net score, while the A Grade prizes went to Mary-Anne Davis (14) 73 net and Jude Simmonds (25) 74 net.

Jenny Lynas, 74, and both Judy McMahon and Suzanne McLellan, with 76, led the ball pool.

Mary-Anne Davis putted 29 times to win the putting competition, while the nearest the pins were won by Georgina Douglas, Carolyn Zambelli, Jill McIndoe and Kathy Parkinson.

On Saturday, Carol Wiseman (26) with 38 points won a three-way countback ahead of Barb Cadd (30) and Barb Clark (31).

Dione Heppell and Kristy Gordon, both 34 points, led the ball pool, with the nearest the pins won by Kristy Gordon and Claris Bourne.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, October 7, members played the back nine, with the best score of the day recorded by Robert Smith with 20 points.

He was followed Barry Ingram and Graeme Bray on 18 points, with Ian Dickson on 17 points, Damian Kelly and Ian Ray on 16 points, Gavin Scown on 15 points and both John Brereton and Kevin Maddy on 13 points.

On Wednesday, October 9, members of Dad’s Army played the front nine, with the best score being recorded by Barry Bishop on 19 points, closely followed by Ian Dickson on 18 points, with Robert Smith and Graeme Bray (17 points), Kevin Maddy (16 points) and Gavin Scown (13 points) following.

Members welcomed Brian Devlin, who came in with 11 points from his very low handicap, while four players scores were not recorded on MyScore.

The weekly winner was Robert Smith with 37 points and was followed by Graeme Bray and Ian Dickson on 35 points, with Kevin Maddy on 29 points and Gavin Scown on 28 points.
