Les McPhee elected mayor, Ann Young deputy

LAKES Ward Cr Les McPhee was elected Mayor of Swan Hill Rural City Council at tonight’s statutory council meeting.

Central Ward Cr Ann Young was elected Deputy Mayor, while all councillors were sworn in following last month’s local government election.

This term will be Cr McPhee’s fourth as mayor, following his time in the lead civic role in 2013, 2014 and 2016. He was first elected to Swan Hill Rural City Council in 2008.

He said he was looking forward to working with the newly-elected council as a united team.

“I believe we have a strong and truly representative Council. As a group we have experience in agriculture, small business, the public service and the community sector,” Cr McPhee said.

“I look forward to bringing all that experience together in a team environment as we work on our Council Plan, setting the strategic direction for the Council and setting goals for the future of our municipality.”

Veteran Robinvale Ward Cr John Katis was the only other candidate for the mayoral position, but only received the support of Murray-Mallee Ward Cr Gary Norton.
