The head of Australia’s peak ricegrowers body says growers continue to face challenges over water policy and allocation, world markets and research and development.
Moulamein’s Jeremy Morton was elected president of the Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) last September.
Before his appointment, Mr Morton was senior vice-president and has been a member of RGA’s central executive over two periods, first in the early 1990s and again during the last three years.
He has been a member of the association’s Wakool branch since 1987.
The father-of-three said he was never afraid to express his views about the rice industry, a reason for his election as president.
“I like to get in and have a direct say on decision making and express my views on things and the views of others,” Mr Morton said.
“A lot of the things we do are influenced by governments and bureaucracy and the way they implement policy.”
