INVESTIGATIONS into a brawl at the conclusion of the 2016 Central Murray Football Netball League (CMFNL) are ongoing.
Police will not press charges against any of the crowd involved in the melee.
With just three minutes remaining in the biggest game of the year, a group of people spilled onto the playing surface after a disagreement erupted. The incident overshadowed Kerang’s fifth premiership-in-a-row after they had defeated Nyah Nyah West United Demons in the unlikely decider.
CMFNL chairman John Brookshaw said the board would make a decision on where to go next at their next meeting on Monday night.
“The [full report] has been sent to the board and we are going to discuss this on Monday,” he told The Guardian.
“We will make a decision on what we will do as it is a complex situation and… there are some recommendations which will come forward.”
While the board are yet to discuss such recommendations, Mr Brookshaw said keeping everyone behind the white lines and separating supporter bases could reduce the risk in future years.
He was also upset at the timing of the incident.
“It was only the last three minutes and people will eventually forget Kerang winning their fifth grand final.
“It will be remembered for a fight,” he said.
“We are extremely disappointed and it won’t be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.”
The CMFNL board is expected to come up with a list of recommendations at the meeting to try and prevent further melees breaking out across all grounds.
