There has been a lot of barking around Whitten Oval at Footscray in the past four weeks, not least because the Western Bulldogs have just ended a 55-year grand final drought — until now, the AFL’s longest.
The trailblazers of the Bulldogs’ women’s side also have tails wagging.
Women’s AFL pioneer and Western Bulldogs marquee player Katie Brennan joined a cavalcade of Australian athletes, including former Collingwood premiership player Travis Cloke, Collingwood forward Ben Reid and Collingwood netball player Madi Robinson, at a Swan Hill Jockey Club’s sportsperson’s luncheon on Friday.

Brennan was one of 16 footballers handpicked as the most outstanding in the country and bestowed with marquee status for the new AFL women’s league to launch next season.
