Pig carcasses were scattered across the Mallee Highway in a truck rollover near Manangatang yesterday morning.
Manangatang police Senior Constable Tony Pearson said the male driver, who was not injured, lost control of the B-double about 20km east of Manangatang, near Pearce Lane, shortly after 5am.
The truck, travelling from South Australia to NSW, careened down an embankment after the driver attempted to correct it back on to the highway.
Fire crews attended the scene and highway patrol officers diverted passing motorists to a dirt slip road.
Sen-Constable Pearson said police intended to charge the driver with careless driving.

“We won’t know how long he was driving continuously for until we can access the log book inside the cabin,” he said. “This is a timely reminder for truck drivers to pull over and rest.
“This happened predawn, (the truck) crossed on to the other side of the road and could have ended in tragedy.”
