SWAN Hill McDonald’s has joined a national campaign to pledge 5000 jobs to inexperienced workers in 50 days.
The campaign was promoted by a national youth unemployment rate of 13.2 per cent for those looking for work and aged between 15 and 24.
McDonald’s Swan Hill owner Kirsty Tassell said although degrees were still very valuable, academic achievements were even more valuable when paired with a resume full of experience.
“Students who are able to work during their high school and college years are able to demonstrate this experience and build valuable entries on their resume,” she said.
“This experience also demonstrates that they are able to successfully balance work and education at the same time.”
Ms Tassell said regional youth needed to move away from home for tertiary education, forcing them to be independent at the ages of 17 and 18.
“A lot of them drop out and move back because they haven’t had a part time job or learnt how to juggle work and school,” she said.
