Woorinen house fire

A WOORINEN house has been extensively damaged after fire tore through it yesterday morning.

Four CFA crews from Beverford, Nyah Nyah West, Swan Hill and Woorinen South were called to the Lake Road property shortly after 11.30am to find the single-storey weatherboard home engulfed in flames.

Woorinen South CFA second lieutenant Jed O’Brien said it took crews more than 1½ hours to bring the fire under control.

“The house has been damaged by fire, and what was salvaged from fire has been destroyed by heat and water,” he said.

“We believe it started in one of the bedrooms, but we’re not 100 per cent sure at this stage.”

The husband and wife were home at the time and escaped before flames took hold.

It was not known what caused the fire, but at this stage is not being treated as suspicious.
