READY and excited, a Swan Hill boxer has kicked off his boxing career with a victory in Melbourne after a decade of watching competitors step between the ropes themselves.
Swan Hill’s Thomas Mitchell was successful in his first outing on Sunday, doing the town and coach Daniel Uebergang proud.
Dropping 17kgs in three months — two kilos too many — Mitchell was as focussed as he could be going into the fight.
His weight meant he was not as strong as his opponent but the country fighter held his own with the better technique of the two.
Being calmed down before the match as his excitement began exuding energy, Mitchell said he was just glad to finally kick his career off.
“I was pretty excited and glad we got the result … there was a lot of hard work and it all paid off,” he told The Guardian.
