IT is official.
Swan Hill’s Tessa Lavey has joined the road to Rio after being announced as part of the Australian Opals Basketball squad heading to the Olympics next month.
The 23-year-old Perth Lynx captain has been in career best form, helping her WNBL side reach the grand final, with all her hard work paying off as she prepares to take on the world’s best.
The talented point guard was selected to make her Olympic debut earlier this week and said she was over the moon to be heading over.
“I am very excited, it is something you dream of as a kid and you wish for it, and now it is going to happen,” a glowing Lavey said.
“It is crazy. I have mixed feelings…there are definitely a lot of nerves and a lot of excitement and anticipation, but I can’t wait to experience what Rio has to offer.
“I don’t know if I believe it yet to be honest. It is something I never thought would be something that would happen to me being a country kid, but I have worked hard and I am with where I am at the moment.”
