Barb Jones says goodnight

AFTER 38 years serving the Goodnight community, Barb Jones has called it a day and the Goodnight Post Office has shutup-shop.

Mrs Jones, who is in her retirement year, said she decided not to renew her mail run contract earlier this year.

“They (Australia Post) asked me what my intentions were, and I told them I wasn’t going to renew the contract,” she said.

“On July 30 I retired from the community mail agency, and the mail run closed on that day.

“There have been many highs and lows throughout the 38 years with a lot of wonderful times and many sad times.”

Mrs Jones said the mail run contract will continue as normal, but the community mail agency that was open two hours a day is now closed.

“Everything is going to come from Tooleybuc now and will be delivered to us in due course,” she said.

Mrs Jones was thankful to the Goodnight community for their friendship and support over her 38 years of service.

“I miss all the people I have been in contact with over the years, but I am not moving away from the area, she said.

“Goodnight is a good town and I can think of nowhere I would rather be, we are like a big family and we are all here for each other.”
