Club desperate

SWAN Hill Gymnastics Club is in desperate need of a coach or it risks folding, according to the club president.

Head coach Nerida Hoare will be stepping down from full-time duties at the end of the year, putting an onus on the club to find a new coach.

Swan Hill Gymnastics Club president Jane Prochilo said she was calling out to anybody interested in the coaching gig.

“To have the club fold would be devastating but we are calling out to all the parents to see if they would be interested in doing a basic coaching course,” she said.

“I will be doing it with another person, but we can’t commit to every session. It is a concern for us, there are a lot of kids in the club and I think it would be disappointing for it to close.”

Ms Prochilo said the health benefits were high when it came to the Olympic sport, with competitors taught core strength and balance.

With so many young children in the area, the club believes not enough sport is offered before football and netball.

“This is a perfect sport for kids, they can’t do footy or netball until later and there are restrictions on what the young kids can do here,” she told The Guardian.

“I think it is important we are still here, I just think it isn’t competitive and is a great opportunity for kids to come into a non-competitive atmosphere … I think it is a great chance for kids to build their confidence.”
