Swans making waves

MOULAMEIN have made the first big move in their quest to climb back up the Golden Rivers ladder, announcing joint playing coaches for next season.

Lake Boga’s Brodie Tonkin will take the reins of the Swans next season with former Billabong Crows player Hayden Dalitz in a joint coaching capacity.

The pair will take over from Shane Featherby, who will depart the club after one season, in which the Swans missed the finals with a three win, 13 loss home-and-away record.

Tonkin and Dalitz come with impressive resumes that include NAB League, VFL and VAFA experience between them.

Tonkin played 10 games with Lake Boga this season before injury in round 11, while Dalitz will return to football after two years out of the game.

Two Blues depart

THE departures have continued at grand finalist Kerang this off-season, after this season’s captain Josh Nitschke was last week announced as South Bendigo’s latest signing.

One of the premier midfielders in the Central Murray, Nitschke will join six-time Kerang premiership coach Troy Coates at the Bloods.

Also departing the Blues will be talented junior Harry Bremner, who will join Koondrook-Barham next season under new coach Marcus Demaria.

Bremner was seen as one of Kerang’s future stars, having played 14 senior games this season after making his debut against Woorinen in the final round of the 2023 home-and-away season.

Last week it was announced Josh Hann was leaving Kerang to become the senior coach at Mount Pleasant.

Simpson joins Swans

SWAN Hill have begun beefing up their coaching department following the departure of assistant coach Jose Miliado, with Sea Lake Nandaly dual premiership forward-midfielder Will Simpson confirmed as the Swans senior assistant coach for next season.

Simpson will join forces with Michael Herlihy, who will once again coach Swan Hill, who finished 10th with a two win, 14 loss home-and-away record last season.

Simpson will also help fill the void left by both Miliado brothers, who will return to their junior club Woorinen, as well as Tom Isma, who it was confirmed will join Golden Rivers club Ultima for next season.

Isma returns to the Roos having played at the club between 2010 and 2016, winning back-to-back premierships in 2014 and 2015 as well as the EG Hunt Medal as the Golden Rivers best and fairest during his time at Ultima.
