TWO tourism infrastructure projects across the district have received funding boosts, days before Victorian Government hands down its State Budget next Wednesday.
Victorian Attorney General Martin Pakula announced $297,000 towards an upgrade of the Catalina Museum in Lake Boga and a $75,000 project to enhance Boundary Bend’s riverfront experience, during a visit to both towns this week.
The Catalina Museum upgrade, which will cost $427,000 overall, will see the construction of a new outdoor entertainment space fit with a cafe and an aquatic-themed playing area, promising to create six permanent jobs and 13 casual jobs.
A new walking track, playground and dumping point for RV travellers will be developed at Boundary Bend, aimed at enticing tourists to stay longer in the town.
“After the announcement at Boundary Bend, we went another half a kilometre up the road to where the river bends and it’s an absolutely majestic part of the Murray itself, and Lake Boga’s obviously a major tourism attraction in the area,” Mr Pakula told The Guardian.
Mr Pakula, who is also Minister for Racing, made the announcements on behalf of Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford, as he was already visiting Swan Hill to announce funding for local thoroughbred and harness racing that night.
That funding — totalling $500,000 — will go into upgrading local facilities and track maintenance equipment.
