A CONTINUATION of a playful event will ensure shoes again come off at the Swan Hill Region Food and Wine Festival this year.
Last year’s inaugural grape stomp was a resounding success with almost 30 people taking to the barrel to trample grapes of the Tempranillo variety, supplied by Lake Boga wine grape grower Colin Free.
The 2015 stomped grape juice, fondly known as Toe Jam Red, has been fermented and will be available for taste testing this year.
The robust drop was even entered into the novice section of the 2015 Australian Inland Wine Show, placing the equivalent of bronze.
Mr Free is keen for everyone to get involved in creating this year’s batch, to be stomped from the red Graciano grape variety.
“You have to be keen and energetic and have some fun,” he said.
“Two people jump in the basket and go their hardest at squashing their grapes while the other person holds a jug measuring how much they get.
“The winners from each round battle off in a final.”
The grape stomp will take place on Saturday, March 12 — the second day of the annual food and wine festival.
Anyone interested in entering a team of three should contact Landmark’s Andrew Seton Stewart on 0439 840 267 to secure their spot.
