‘Come take everything’

WHEN Andy Mac was 18, he lost almost everything he owned in a house fire.

Five years later, and he’s going through it all again — only this time with a twist.

Last week Mr Mac gave away all his worldly possessions.

Planning a move back to his native Melbourne, before heading overseas, the Lake Boga resident created an Everything is Free! sale on Buy-Swap-Sell Wednesday afternoon.

The reaction to his charitable gesture was swift and the experiment proved wildly successful.

“People just want free stuff,” Mr Mac said.

By Thursday afternoon almost everything — the couch, bookcase, bed, books and mirrors — had disappeared from his Lake Boga home.

“I would like this to be a positive joyful event in which anyone can civilly, and calmly, come take the things that take their fancy,” Mr Mac wrote on his Facebook post, noting individuals were limited to three items each, or seven items per family.

The devout Christian described the good deed as his first step towards preparing to live out of a suitcase.

“I could go through the hassle of labelling everything to sell, or I could turn that money into a 30 man moving crew,” he explained.

“I’m on a pursuit of generosity and this is good practice.”
