Cat cull barbaric: RSCPA

THE gruesome discovery of a brace of dead cats hanging from the Swan Hill-Barham Road sign has prompted a strongly worded statement from the RSPCA.

A local resident found the three cats wired together in a hunting brace, strung from the sign at the Deniliquin turn-off, last Friday morning.

The cats, which had no identification, microchips or tags, were removed shortly after by the Wakool Shire Council.

According to the general manager of the council, Bruce Graham, it is their policy to hand all animal cruelty cases to the RSPCA for further investigation.

A spokeswoman from the RSPCA has this week deplored the actions of the perpetrators.

“The RSPCA condemns the actions of whoever is responsible for this disgraceful act of animal cruelty.

“To display the deceased animals in such a barbaric fashion exhibits a complete lack of empathy and respect towards animal welfare.

“We are appalled that animals have been left in this manner in a public place for everyone to see, including young children.

“This would have been quite traumatic for anyone that witnessed the cats hanging from the sign and it is absolutely senseless behaviour by those involved.”
