Bail for alleged reckless driver

A 27-YEAR-OLD man already on bail for the theft of $20,000 of stock from a Swan Hill business appeared in court on fresh charges earlier this week.

Swan Hill man Ryan Martin faced Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, applying to be released from police custody after he was recently remanded on new charges.

The charges included reckless conduct endangering life or serious injury.

Police allege Martin was behind the wheel of a vehicle seen doing a burnout, estimated to be about 60m long, on June 16 extending from Butterworth Street onto Murlong Street, allegedly narrowly missing a young girl.

At the time of the offending, Martin was on bail for charges relating to the theft of $20,000 of high-end hair and beauty supplies from Savhoo Distributors on Beveridge Street.

The prosecution opposed bail on a range of grounds, including concerns Martin may commit further offences while on bail.

“I believe he will commit further offences,” Constable Sam Cartwright told the court.
