Positive review

MURRAY Downs Golf and Country Club remains happy with its course layout and condition, following the annual board review of the region’s premier golfing destination.

CEO Greg Roberts said the review, which involved the board and course superintendent Andy Abbott and was completed last month, had found no major issues.

“There’s not been much rain but the course is in excellent condition anyway,” Roberts said.

“It’s as good as we could have hoped for in the circumstances.”

Roberts said there would be no changes to the layout, which would require the involvement of course designer Ted Parslow.

He said the course was viewed favourably by local members and visitors.

“They rave about the course. It’s been rated number one in the Murray region basically since its inception,” Roberts said.

Golfer Riley Head, pictured, returned for a hit last Thursday, his first time back to the course since relocating to Sanctuary Cove six months ago.

Head, who has worked as a part-time pro shop attendant at Murray Downs, also said visitors’ feedback was positive.

“Probably the layout is what they’re mostly interested in and the lush fairways,” he said.
