Man charged with arson

A 46-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with arson following two fires in the Swan Hill CBD last Thursday night.

The first of the two was believed to have been lit between 11pm and 11.40pm, with an estimated $20,000 damage done to a stand-alone coolroom behind Bartalotta’s Hot Bread Bakery on Campbell Street.

Around the same time a bin full of cardboard was set alight behind Cheap as Chips on the corner of Beveridge and McCrae streets.

The Swan Hill man was interviewed by police on Monday morning and there are no other persons of interest in the investigation.

The man was bailed to appear at Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court on April 28.
