MORE than 6300 premises in Swan Hill, Balranald and Wentworth are set to receive a boost to their internet speeds, following the latest roll-out announcement from NBN Co yesterday.
Work at more than 300,000 business and residential locations in New South Wales and Victoria is set to begin by September 2016, according to the latest quarterly update from NBN Co.
Nearly 5000 homes in Swan Hill, 600 in Balranald and 700 in Wentworth will be connected to the high-speed broadband network.
A spokesperson for NBN Co said “parts” of the Swan Hill and Balranald areas would be connected, but did not specify which.
“This is exciting news for the areas which have been added to our construction schedule as it means work to build the network is expected to be underway by September 2016,” she said.
“NBN Co will provide information about the towns and suburbs expected to be covered by the roll-out within the region when more detailed construction planning and designs have been finalised.
“The expansion of the roll-out reflects the company’s new, flexible multi-technology approach and is an important step toward reaching its goal of connecting eight million premises to the NBN by 2020.”
The Guardian understands Murray Downs will not be part of this rollout.
Online rollout maps will be updated monthly as areas within the region move into construction.
