Are you man enough?

AN UPCOMING fundraiser in Swan Hill will ask tradies one question – are you man enough to wear pink?

It involves a simple challenge: trade-in the yellow or orange hi-vis shirt for a fuchsia hue in the name of breast cancer research.

Known as the Real Men Wear Pink campaign and promoted by the likes of celebrity builder Scott Cam, it aims to get men involved in a cause and a colour usually associated with women.

It is the latest project for local woman Donna Rullo, an advocate for awareness and research into cancer.

Ms Rullo said the idea follows on from a recent ‘backyard blitz’ for Swan Hill woman Helen Harris, who sadly passed away a week-and-a-half ago after a battle with cancer.

“I was laying in bed and I thought well, if we did something like this campaign and we said we would like this money to go into research for metastasise of breast to brain ((cancer))… because that seems to be what has happened to so many of the women in Swan Hill,” Ms Rullo said.

Metastatic breast cancer is also known as advanced or secondary breast cancer.

It occurs when cancerous cells from the cancer in the breast spread to other parts of the body, in blood vessels or lymphatic vessels, forming a new cancer deposit.

Ms Rullo said the campaign was specifically aimed at male tradies, who can be the family and friends who support women through their illness.
