Little aths jump straight in

UNDER 8 Boys athlete Liam Shadbolt etched his name in the Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre record books with a throw of 13.12m in the Vortex last Friday night.

Shadbolt’s effort broke the old record of 12.37m set by Samuel Bull back in 2011.

Others to begin the resumption of competition on the right foot were Tyler Gadsby, Sophie Renney, Murdoch McKenzie, Callan Jager, Sara Berg, Jenna Conlan, Abigail Flowers and Chelsea Tofful, who each managed three personal best performances.

Tofful leaped an impressive distance of 8.88m in the Under 14 Girls triple jump, while there was much to like about Berg’s 18.84 throw in the Under 11 Girls discus.

Noah Barbary and Murdoch McKenzie produced the race of the night with a terrific tussle in the Under 8 400m event.

Both athletes managed personal bests in the run, with Barbary taking the honours by just 0.34 seconds.

Other noteworthy performances at last Friday’s competition night came from Ashley Peel, Alyssa Rogers, Mackenna McKenzie, Nioka Nalder, Andi Houlihan, Abbey Berg, Tasha Mason, Eloise Storer, Alexa Neill, Hannah Rogers, Bailey Clarke, Darby Brown, Noah Barbary, Liam Shadbolt, Oscar Hickox, Emily Button, Megan McInerney, Aidan Dorigo, Emma Berg, who each produced two personal bests.

Meanwhile, Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre representatives Jackelyn Burge, Nathan Louw and Sophie Adamson performed with distinction at the Victorian State Multi-Event championships held in Moe last weekend.

Burge finished 12th in her heptathlon event, while Louw and Adamson finishing 25th and 27th respectively in large fields in their pentathlon competition.

Louw’s results included a third-placed finish in the 100m, while Burge’s and Adamson’s best-placed finishes of 4th and 14th respectively came in the 800m.
