Blues cruise to upset win

KERANG have come from outside the top three to record the most unlikely of premierships, defeating the Cohuna Kangas by six goals in Saturday’s 17 & Under grand final.

The Blues were forced to play knockout netball over the finals series, eliminating all four finals opponents in an impressive finish to their season.

It was a heartbreaking way for the Kangas’ season to conclude, however, with the side having lost just the one game for the entire season.

The Kangas lost form at the wrong end of the season, leading to the 52-46 result in the final game of the year, despite jumping the Blues with the opening three goals of the grand final.

Kerang quickly settled, however, scoring 16 goals in the opening quarter to finish four goals clear at the first break.

Not helping Cohuna’s cause was the loss of centre and key player Charli Moon, who was forced from the court after suffering a concussion.

The Blues continued their strong start to finish the first half six goals in front, with the second half descending into an arm wrestle between the two rivals.

Despite the minor premiers’ best efforts to drag themselves back into the contest, Kerang had all the answers late, with the Blues’ Allie Hunter a deserving best-on-court winner.
