Farmer loses 40 hectares in fire

MORE than 40 hectares went up in flames at Fish Point Thursday afternoon.

Farmer Raymond Hepburn said he was slashing some heavy stubble when the slasher sparked and caused the fire in the paddock next to his house. 

He immediately called Triple-0 and quickly got out his own hose to prevent the fire from reaching the house. 

Lake Boga CFA unit first Lieutenant James White said the windy conditions were blowing the fire towards the house, but that the driveway of the property was a good fire break. 

Lake Charm and Swan Hill CFA units attended the scene and together the fire was extinguished in under an hour.
