Saints get home

ST MARY’S Tyntynder, Swan Hill and Woorinen all took home an early present in the Swan Hill District Cricket Association’s last round before the Christmas break.

The Saints got up over Ultima TUF, the Swans downed Nyah District and the Tigers were too strong for RSL in Round 10 action. The season resumes on January 10.

Saints def UTUF

ST MARY’S Tyntynder got home relatively comfortably against Ultima TUF at Ken Harrison Sporting Complex on Saturday.

The visitors batted first and, with starts to Nuwan Fernando (24) and Raj Kumar (18) at the top of the order, were able to set a competitive 98.

Robin Sebastian and Sam Grant managed two wickets each for St Mary’s, which was well-served by Brent Daniels’ 43.

The Saints chased down the target in the 17th over with five wickets to spare.

Among the highlights for the winners was a spectacular outfield catch by young gun Jonty Chaproniere.

Swans def Demons

SWAN Hill was far too strong for Nyah District on Saturday.

The Swans travelled up to Nyah where they batted first, with Daniel Cruickshank playing a key role with the bat with 59.

Brad Jones managed three wickets for the Demons but it couldn’t stop the Swans compiling a strong 140. Nyah batsmen Mick Boulton, Nathan Hayward and Jacob Lister all made starts but couldn’t go on with it as the Demons managed just 89 for the loss of eight wickets from their full 20 overs.

Jon Hirst, Alan Hatcher and Brock Freeman all managed two wickets for the winners.

Tigers def Blues

WOORINEN had a comfortable win over RSL at Woorinen on Saturday.

The visitors batted first but after losing early wickets the Blues struggled to gain momentum, with Brenton Caldwell steadying the ship with a mid-order contribution of 30.

With Luke Crow and Josh Domaille claiming two wickets each though, RSL was only able to manage 75 for the loss of eight wickets for its innings.

Dean Morpeth starred with the bat for the Tigers, managing 49 to be clearly the game’s top scorer before retiring.

The Tigers passed RSL’s total in the 13th over, just two wickets down.
