A SPECIALIST search and rescue squad has been called in to assist with the “baffling” disappearance of Swan Hill man Mark Anthony Beames, who was last seen more than three months ago.
Reported missing by family in October, Mr Beames was last seen in early September leaving a relative’s Harrison Crescent home.
Detective Senior Constable Mick Corridan said divers were searching the area near Mr Beames’ last known whereabouts — a strip of channel adjacent to a Gray Street home he was known to squat in.
“There are a number of small weirs in the channel where blockages could occur and so we have got search and rescue up [to have a look],” he said.
“The fear is that he may have fallen into the channel in relation to a serious medical issue.
“His family have been coping well, considering it has been a number of months now and we would like to get them some closure, especially at this time of year.”
Mr Beames frequently kept in touch with his family, and Det Sen Cnst Corridan said they had received numerous phone calls from relatives across Australia.
