THE plot has thickened in the case of two trees hacked and poisoned in Swan Hill, after signs seeking information on the matter were vandalised.
Around two weeks ago, the trees were cut back during a routine check by Swan Hill Rural City Council when they were deemed unsafe.
Two residents already upset about the “hacking” of the trees, then discovered holes had been drilled into the trunk and a green substance — believed to be poison — poured into them.
In a bid to find the culprit of the poisoning, resident Cynthia Watson placed a sign on the trees urging anyone with information to come forward.
She later discovered the sign had been vandalised with ‘it’s a good thing’ spray painted in blue.
A replacement council sign was then vandalised with the same paint this week.
Swan Hill Rural City Council has sealed the holes and reported the matter to Swan Hill police.
